The Highlights of French Polynesia

Manta rays, sea turtles, and humpback whales, not to mention tropical fish and vibrant marine vegetation that flood the islands with natural diversity and charisma, will take your breath away from the moment you set sight. The wild landscapes and turquoise waters allow for pure relaxation, peace, and enjoyment when you rent a yacht in French Polynesia. Never a dull moment (or sight!) when you visit this island escape. On a boat charter in French Polynesia, you will be able to enjoy the crystal-clear waters to the fullest and the extensive marine life. Spot sharks, turtles, tropical fish, corals, and more from the boat or after you dive into to the refreshing waters. Refresh yourself whenever you please by taking a dip and swimming in a dream location.

Nautical activities

There is no shortage of water activities to take part in when you rent a boat in French Polynesia! The glowing turquoise waters, exotic sea life and always beaming sunshine make for ideal conditions to participate in jet skiing, snorkelling, diving, surfing, stand-up paddle boarding and even parasailing! During your holiday in French Polynesia, take advantage of the calm, open water and enjoy the water sports and other nautical activities available to you.

One of the unique aspects of a yacht charter in French Polynesia is that you are never far from diverse marine life hidden just below the surface. Swim amongst rays, tropical fish, black-tip reef sharks, lemon sharks and many other protected species who roam the waters off the islands of French Polynesia. If you are keen to swim with sharks, but in a more monitored environment, don't miss out on some of the amazing shark and ray tours that take place year-round. For an even more spectacular experience, you can dive alongside humpback whales from August to October.

Nature walks and hiking

Waterfalls, hidden coves, lush groves and colourful flowers... There is no shortage of natural beauty when you rent a boat in French Polynesia! Discover the wonders of the landscapes surrounding you by taking a hike through the hilly island paths. Tahiti is arguably one of the most popular destinations in French Polynesia, so check out the hiking trails here or go on an excursion to discover Tahiti's most exquisite waterfalls. We recommend three levels of hikes to visit three different waterfalls:

Level 1: Faarumai Falls

Faarumai waterfalls are a great option for those looking for a less strenuous outing during their time in Tahiti. With easy walking trails and waterfalls that are known as "The Three Cascades,” you will definitely enjoy this casual hike in a breath-taking setting. Remember to bring swimming gear, as there is a natural pool located at the base of the waterfalls that you can enjoy.

Level 2: Puraha Falls

Now that we are levelling up, we invite those a bit more adventurous to venture over to Puraha falls, where the hike is a bit more intense than the last recommendation. The waterfall at the final destination is sure to leave an impression in all its grandeur. Once again, swimming gear is a must if you plan to cool off in the shallows by the waterfall after your hike, but rest aware, this swimming location is best for the adventurous! You might even encounter eels hiding deep in the corals or in the shallows near the falls, so remember to pay attention!

Level 3: Fautaua Falls

Level 3 is easily the most difficult hike we recommend, as you will need to plan a good half-day for this one. Don't be dissuaded though, as the beauty of this waterfall and the scenery of the island is well worth the trek. Fautaua waterfall is generally uncrowded due to the nature and intensity of the hike, but it will leave you in complete tranquillity as you spend your afternoon bathing in the pools or basking in the sun. Enjoy the perks of island life when you charter a yacht in French Polynesia!

Getting there

One of the most popular ways to travel to French Polynesia from Europe is with a stopover in Los Angeles. If you are based in North America already, we recommend flying to French Polynesia from Los Angeles as well, as there are multiple direct flights per week. Once you arrive at the Faa’a International Airport, otherwise known as the Tahiti International Airport, flying is the main option to get to your departure base, depending on the location and the distance. For those departing on their charter in Raiatea, Bora Bora, Huahine or Rangiroa, we suggest taking a quick 45-minute flight from Tahiti. Air Tahiti Nui is a good option that caters to the islands of French Polynesia with well-priced and fast flights. Due to the sometimes-expansive distance between islands, it is easiest to fly from Tahiti; however, during your yacht charter in French Polynesia you will have the opportunity to explore neighbouring islands and coves. On the islands, transportation varies, but generally there will be bicycles, buses and car rental options available to you.
